10 Reasons To Be Excited For Marvel Phase Three

As if you really need a reason...

It’s extraordinary what Marvel have accomplished in a decade. In 2005 they announced their intention to bring Iron Man to the big screen after he spent 15 years in developmental hell under Universal's care (remember when they asked Quentin Tarantino to write and direct?), and no one could have predicted how Robert Downey Jr's Tony Stark would lead the charge to what became the most successful film franchise in cinema.

Now only days away from passing the $1 billion mark, Age Of Ultron will be the third Marvel film to make that impressive feat as they sign off Phase Two with Ant-Man. As they enter their Third Phase it doesn't look like the juggernaut is slowing down anytime soon. Like with any comic film, there are the naysayers who will try their best to convince you Age of Ultron was a letdown, and while it may not have been the darkest addition to the Marvel Universe everyone expected, it was still a terrific film and a great addition to the MCU.

But if you think Marvel has peaked and can't get any better, this article is here to tell you how wrong you are. The Avengers as they once were may be over, but there is more than enough in Phase 3 to ensure that the bubble is some way away from bursting for Marvel. And that should excite you...

It’s a shame that Joss Whedon has decided to call it on his time with Marvel as it cannot be ignored how huge an influence he was in bringing the cinematic universe to full fruition. He not only accomplished something critics said couldn’t be done, but he did it with considerable ease – Zack Snyder will no doubt be taking notes.

Alas, all good things must come to an end and it’s time for someone else to take over the reins and guide Marvel to the next level, and that’s where the Russo Brothers come in.

With all the explosions and fight scenes that come hand in hand with a superhero film, there’s a risk that Marvel will fall back into the mindless Michael Bay style of shooting, focusing on special effects over storyline. Very fortunately for fans, that is not how the Russo Brothers do business.

They did a terrific job with Captain America: Winter Soldier, with their fight scenes standing out as some of the best and most consistent in any Marvel film. Many complimented their decision to avoid special effects when necessary, and rather than following the standard action film routine with quick editing and moving camera shots, they opted for longer, more physical action scenes hoping to achieve a more visceral and dangerous feel.
