10 Reasons Why Looper is Best Film of 2012

10. An Amazing Premise

Let me get this right out of the way early. From the very second I heard and processed Looper€™s core premise a few months ago I was hooked. I had to see this movie. It€™s about an assassin employed in the present (which is technically our future) to execute mob targets sent from further ahead in time. But trouble brews when he fails to successfully kill his future self. In a way, it€™s so simple, so pure, that I can€™t actually believe it hasn€™t been done before. But it hasn€™t. To my mind, nothing even remotely similar has either (Terminator maybe?). Of course, there€™s much more to it than simply the concept, but a good premise is the hook that pulls you in to the theatre. For me, Looper€™s premise up to Phillip K. Dick standards, except wait, it€™s completely of writer/director Rian Johnson€™s own machination. With story chops like Johnson€™s I€™d be very surprised if he didn€™t have an Oscar or two in his trophy cabinet before the end of the decade.
