10 Ridiculous Movie Star Paychecks

4. Eddie Murphy - The Adventures Of Pluto Nash (2002)

Advf Eddie Murphy was undoubtedly one of the biggest movie stars on the planet throughout the late 1980s and 90s, regularly raking in tens of millions of dollars per movie. However, a succession of critical and commercial disappointments (and a strange penchant for fat suits) saw his star plummet dramatically. The lowest point undoubtedly came with this steaming turd of a movie. It didn't bode well for The Adventures of Pluto Nash that it went unreleased for nearly two years after shooting was completed, and when the movie was finally unleashed on an unsuspecting world it would become one of the biggest box office bombs in history. With a budget of $100m, the movie opened at over 2,000 theaters and grossed an embarrassing $2.2 million in its opening weekend. It would close with a worldwide total of just $7.1 million, and a reputation as one of the wost films ever made. The reason I include it on the list is because Eddie Murphy made $20 million from this movie. That's right; despite a critical mauling, multiple Razzie nominations and the fact it very nearly ruined his career, the star still got an eight-figure payout that ended up nearly three times the movie's entire worldwide gross. I may be wrong, but I don't think anybody in movies has ever been paid so much for something so awful.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
