10 Ridiculously Overused Movie Sound Effects

6. Bullet Ricochet

Perhaps it's because this sound effect by its nature sounds kinda old-fashioned, but this glorious bullet ricochet appears to have finally been retired, despite having enjoyed a prolific cinematic tenure from the 1950s all the way through to the 1990s. The sound, of a bullet ricocheting and letting out the most beautifully over-the-top "PANG!" sound effect has been used in 1950's Winchester '73, 1964's Zulu and Goldfinger, 1973's The Battle of Sutjeska, 1995's Goldeneye, and so many many more. Remarked by most to be "the James Bond sound effect" - especially to those who played the N64 Goldeneye game - it doesn't really fit in with the style of contemporary action movies, and so will likely be reserved for old-school throwback features in the future.
