10 Rising Actors Who Could Be The Next Big Thing

10. Nicole Alonso

Kicking off the list is Nicole Alonso, the lead in 2014€™s indie horror/thriller gem Crawl Or Die and its upcoming sequels. Written and directed by Oklahoma Ward, the first film was made for roughly $8,000 - however, it looks like a million bucks. You can always tell a wannabe hack from a diamond in the rough by the choices they make: shot composition and editing are where you separate the wheat from the chaff, and on the strength of Crawl Or Die, Ward is the definition of the real deal. Claustrophobic and intense, Crawl Or Die is a fantastic no-budget calling card. As far as choices go, Ward€™s made none better than the selection of his lead actor, Nicole Alonso. Channelling the spirit of Alien€™s Ripley with the glare of Aliens€™ Vasquez, Tank should be a star-making role if there€™s any justice, just as Pitch Black was for Vin Diesel. Alonso is ferocious and committed without ever playing macho: all of the narrow claustrophobic tunnels and tubes Tank crawls through were real and the squirming isn't faked for the cameras. hat image above? One of the wider tunners. Thanks to Alonso, and to Ward€™s focus on her as the centre of his projected trilogy, Tank could be a genuine female action icon for the 21st century. A singer/songwriter of some talent under the name NIKKI (she€™s got material on the Crawl Or Die soundtrack thanks to a successful Kickstarter campaign and won a music video award at the Los Angeles Reel Film Festival with the first song she ever recorded), Alonso is destined for big things€ as is Ward, who€™ll no doubt be retaining her services long after they€™re both on the Hollywood speed dial, given that they€™ve been a couple for some time. There are shades of the Paul Anderson/Milla Jovovich working relationship here, and the Resident Evil film franchise may have its detractors, but it's coming up on a billion dollars in box office receipts.
