10 'Rotten' Films That Will Eventually Be Viewed As Classics

The critics can't be right all the time.

Those cinema-goers that choose to ignore the critics and "judge the film for themselves" are often taking their movie enjoyment into their own hands. Movie critics get paid to write reviews for a reason; they can be snooty, facetious and unnecessarily acerbic in their judgements, but, at the end of the day, the critics are rarely wrong in their recommendations. Still, film criticism isn't an exact science. While most of the time there is a general consensus amongst movie journos, there is the odd occasion where the critics fail to agree on just how bad/good/passable a film really is. Times like those can distort the purpose of reviews aggregators like Rotten Tomatoes and confuse the Tomatometer into a 'rotten' score. Other times, there are films that critics generally bestow a poor review, only for them to return years later to re-assess the film as something ahead of its time or a piece they simply misinterpreted the first time around. Until that day, when opinion of the film starts to shift, it might have to live with an undeserved 'rotten' RT percentage. It's difficult to predict what 'rotten' films of modern times will mature into 'fresh' classics, but there are some examples that clearly defy their current low score. Here are ten relatively recent examples, all released in the last decade, and all of which will go on to defy the Tomatometer to one day attain classic status.
