10 Rubbish Movies Directed By Great Actors

9. Star Trek V: The Final Frontier (William Shatner)

Generations of Star Trek fans adore William Shatner for his hammy-but-entrancing, decades-spanning performance as James T. Kirk. Outside of Captain Kirk, he€™s also impressed in films like Dodgeball, Impulse, Incubus and Airplane II (where his cameo completely stole the film). He€™s also starred in some cheap tosh, but let€™s not get into that. As a director, he got his big break when offered the job of calling the shots on 1989€™s Star Trek V: The Final Frontier. Leonard Nimoy had already done decent work helming The Search For Spock and the incredibly comedic The Voyage Home. Now it was Shatner€™s turn, and he dropped the baton in truly awful style. Considered a strong contender for the worst film in the franchise, The Final Frontier sees the Enterprise crew attempting to find God beyond the €˜Great Barrier€™ of the universe. The dialogue stinks, the plot plods along uninspiringly, and what little action there is lacks any sense of tension or excitement. Surprisingly, Shatner has continued to direct other projects in the years hence. Most recently he€™s helmed the animated TV series William Shatner War Chronicles and the Trek history documentary Chaos On The Bridge. Thankfully, he was never allowed to direct another proper Star Trek movie.
