10 Sci-Fi Movies That Get Better The Deeper You Go

9. Back To The Future Trilogy

Okay, okay, so it's three movies, but it's one narrative interlocking them whose beginning, middle and end just happen to be compartmentalised in separate chapters. And while Back To The Future might be one of the more family-friendly sci-fi movies released, that doesn't make it any less complex.

Thanks in part to its beloved status - and perhaps even because of its apparent simplicity - the trilogy is one of the most theorised series too, and a fair number of them seem to deal in the idea of death. There are readings suggesting Doc kills Marty, that Doc saves Marty from dying (by going back in time to prevent it a few times), that Doc is essentially the ghosts from A Christmas Carol... It all makes for very compelling reading.

And once you start to peel back the layers of Doc's motivations in particular - and why he changes so much over the course of the movies - it really adds a new dimension to the fun.
