10 Star Wars Anthology Movies That Need To Happen

Star Wars steals a lot of strikingly different elements from other movies and genres. It borrows themes, locations and character archetypes from Westerns, Kurasowa movies, sci-fi adventure serials, and World War II dogfighting movies. That last one is especially important, as it has played a huge role in every Star Wars movie to date.

Why not take that concept and run with it? Rogue One was a war movie, but it was very much a ‘boots on the ground’ affair, and if the Han Solo spinoff is intended to compound Star Wars’ Western elements, then why not base an entire movie about a squadron of fighter pilots?

Imagine a Top Gun-style movie set in the Star Wars universe; a tale of camaraderie and sacrifice set high above any breathable atmosphere. You could even infuse it with elements from Gravity, and have some pilots get stranded out in the vastness of space with no rescue in sight.

We’ve seen plenty of stories set around the Clone Wars and the Original Trilogy, so this would make for a good opportunity to explore the fall of the Empire and the rise of the First Order.

Of course, if anyone at Disney is reading this, please don’t call the movie Star Wars: X-Wing, or X-Wing: A Star Wars Story. There are plenty of better titles for a movie about dogfighting spaceships, but it’s up to you to write the screenplay.
