10 Stinking 2016 Movies That Scored 0% On Rotten Tomatoes

Word of warning: avoid these movies like the plague.

A film’s critical consensus isn’t always gospel, but by and large it’s a pretty useful barometer of its quality. And it’s safe to say that, flaws withstanding, Rotten Tomatoes is a helpful site for getting a gist of how good a movie is too. So, if a movie scores a 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes it’s a good indicator that you should steer well clear and unfortunately for moviegoers, 2016 saw its fair share of zero-rated stinkers.

On the upside, at least the very worst films of last year are diverse in terms of genre: there’s everything from abysmal action flicks and thrill-less thrillers to underwhelming horrors and crappy comedies. On the downside, they’re all terrible.

If you’ve already seen any of the movies featured here, you have our deepest sympathy. If you haven’t, let this be a warning to you. These films are awful, the worst of the worst, the bottom of the barrel, the absolute dregs of cinema in 2016. Seriously, you’d have a better time watching paint dry.

10. Ghost Team

Sitting somewhere uncomfortably between indie drama and supernatural comedy, British director Oliver Irving’s sophomore film Ghost Team fails on every level.

Jon Heder plays lonely print shop clerk Louis who spends most of his day photocopying lost pet posters but dreams of becoming a paranormal investigator just like on his favourite TV programme Ghost Getters, obviously a riff on shows like Ghost Hunters. When the show holds a contest to find a new host, Louis assembles a ragtag group of similarly lonely friends to investigate a barn he’s heard could be haunted aiming to get some competition-worthy footage.

What follows is series of unfunny sequences in which the potential of its comedic cast – which alongside Heder includes Amy Sedaris, David Krumholtz and Justin Long – is wasted. It’s been compared to an elongated version of a Scooby-Doo cartoon and for its lack of laughs, stupid plot and the fact there isn’t one ghost in movie, that’s probably a pretty fair assessment.
