What Is It: Inside Llewyn Davis follows the struggles and challenges of an aspiring songwriter in the 1960s. It is an odyssey through New York as Llewyn seeks solace and a purpose through his life and artistic creativity. Carey Mulligan and John Goodman also make for a strong presence in the supporting cast of the usual offbeat Coen brothers' characters.
Why It Could Win Awards: Directors Joel and Ethan Coen are certainly no strangers to Academic praise and Oscar nominations. Most directors would begin to wane and fizzle out after such a prolonged and successful career but these two are still at the height of their game. Even after winning Best Picture for No Country For Old Men they have continued to receive nominations for their films including A Serious Man and their remake of the John Wayne classic True Grit. Why should Inside Llewyn Davis be any different? Premiering at the Cannes film Festival, Inside Llewyn Davis took home the Grand Prix award and received a positive reception that could carry over into Oscar season.
