10 Theme Park Rides Inspired By Movies We Need To Ride

9. Tomb Raider - The Ride

Tomb Raider The Ride This one may be a bit out of the way as it's located near a city most don't plan to use their vacation time to visit. Paramount's Kings Island is a wonderful park to experience if you ever find yourself close to Cincinnati, Ohio. With several thrilling rides and some fantastic shows many from the surrounding tristate area take the time to make several trips a year. If you ever do get there be sure to ride Tomb Raider. When it first opened this attraction's wait line was almost three hours. The problem was that the ride itself was only able to hold a certain number of people. Then the ride would play out and the next bunch would be let through to the seats. The entire process meant that only one group of people were being allowed through every six minutes or so. However, the wait was well worth it. Often recognized as one of the best dark rides in the world, the riders moved through the temple of the Durga goddess Laura Croft finds in the film. Once loaded into the large ride the goddess wakes up angry. For the next two and half minutes the riders are lifted into the air and spun around facing icy stalactites and pits of lava (but not at the same time of course). At the end the Durga goddess breathes fog over the crowd. It was quite the thrill, if not a little uncomfortable hanging straight downward with nothing but the harness on the seat holding you from falling. In 2007, Viacom sold all their Paramount parks to the Ceder Fair Entertainment Company who immediately renamed Tomb Raider: The Ride as The Crypt. Perhaps not as glorious, but you should still ride if given the chance. All they did was change the name and give its interior a new paint job.
