10 Theme Park Rides Inspired By Movies We Need To Ride

5. Splash Mountain

It's even more fun at night when perfectly lit by purples, pinks, and oranges like a Dario Argento film. The main pull to Splash Mountain is of course its grand finale, a fifty-three foot drop off the mountain into the briar patch that leaves at least one person in your company's floating log drenched. This is after you've already taken a few other dips so to speak in between times where the ride goes dark to tell the overall story of Br'er Rabbit attempting to ecape the clutches of Br'er Fox and Br'er Bear. As much fun as this ride can be (it has to be one of oldest and most popular theme park rides in existence) it makes me wonder how safe it is to ride. Like Disney's Thunder Mountain where the only thing holding you in the roller coaster car is a lap bar (mind you it is a roller coaster) or Space Mountain where the brief snaps of light reveal a ceiling that is at times is dangerously close to your head, Splash Mountain puts people in a floating log that takes a fifty-three foot fall off a high dive without any supports or railings or straps to keep people inside. Kind of just taking your chances with these old rides, aren't you, Walt? The oddest part about Splash Mountain being one of the most popular rides at Disney is that it is easily based off their most unpopular movie of all time. The Song of the South, besides some of their more recent endeavors, still remains the only Disney movie I've never seen and am willing to bet unless you specifically sought it out as an adult you haven't either.
