10 Things Disney Could Do Now They Own Fox

9. Famous Franchises Disappear

Disney acquired a huge number of big-name franchises when they acquired 20th Century Fox's movie division, but many of them are more adult-orientated and don't exactly fit into the company's family-friendly aesthetic, which means that the studio are incredibly unlikely to develop any new movies based on their recently-purchased IP, which could lay many an iconic series to rest.

Could you see the notoriously image-conscious Disney tackling Alien, Predator, Die Hard or The X-Files? Most of those names are probably past their sell-by date anyway, but you get the point. There could be some mileage left in Planet of the Apes, but its hard to see Disney making the franchise a priority, especially so soon after the critically-revered Caesar trilogy.

At the more accessible end of the spectrum, the Mouse House also picked up the rights to Independence Day, Night at the Museum, Home Alone, The Chronicles of Narnia and Alvin & the Chipmunks among others, all franchises that did big business at one point in time but are probably dead in the water at this point.

Theoretically, and in all probability, Disney will dump all of the existing installments of these famous brands on Hulu to gain more subscribers, which could even be a good thing seeing as all of the titles listed above have been subject to the law of diminishing returns at one time or another.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
