Mission Impossible 6: 10 Things It Must Address
It's within the realm of possibility for the series to go out on top.
The Mission: Impossible movies appear to be the action/spy genre's equivalent of a fine wine: they keep getting better with age.
Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation, the fifth installment in the Tom Cruise-led franchise based on the 60s television show, has made almost $500 million dollars worldwide thus far, and continues the trend of the M:I films getting better (for the most part) as the series progresses. It features some great action sequences, a substantially formidable villain, and one of the most insane stunts (from Cruise himself, no less) that you have likely ever seen.
That's no small feat, and with that kind of total take at the box office, the franchise - the first film of which was released all the way back in 1996 - will no doubt continue, with talks of Mission Impossible 6 having already begun. Tom Cruise himself has stated that the sixth film may even begin shooting next year, and he seems eager to be back to work with the Impossible Mission Force.
With the likes of Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg, and Alec Baldwin also in the fold, it appears great things are in store for another Mission: Impossible film.
So, what must a sixth Mission: Impossible address? Lets take a look...
10. What Happened To Solomon Lane?
At the end of Rogue Nation, former MI 6 operative and Syndicate leader Solomon Lane (a nod to the pulp character Solomon Kane, though the resemblance is superficial at best) is locked in a glass box and gassed into unconsciousness, much as Tom Cruise's Ethan Hunt was at the beginning of the film.
What happened to Lane is anybody's guess, but it's something that really should be explained, even just in passing, in film six. He was being loaded into a police van by the IMF team, but just who will they hand him over to? The CIA? Some other American agency? MI 6, who they just caused a minor row with?
It may seem like a minor detail, this question of "what happens to the bad guy when he's actually captured?" - but given how calculated Lane was throughout Rogue Nation, you can envision him either breaking out with ease, or playing Hannibal Lector to Hunt in some future film. Actually, that last premise could work very, very well.
