10 Things You Didn't Know About Alfred Hitchcock

9. He Never Won a Directing Award from the Oscars, Golden Globes or DGA

Surprising as it may seem, despite being nominated several times, he never won an Oscar, DGA, or Golden Globe award. He would later receive honorary awards from both institutions later in life, but the snubs still sting, especially for cinephiles, and supposedly for Hitchcock as well. Along with Robert Altman, he holds the record for most Best Director nominations without a win. He did however win best director from the New York Film Critics Circle for his 1938 film, The Lady Vanishes and the National Board of Review Best Director award for 1969's Topaz.
