Spider-Man has come a long way in Hollywood since his big-screen debut in 2002. The iconic superhero has survived two reboots in the space of five years and is now a major player in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

From the first two entries in Sam Raimi's original trilogy to last year's Homecoming, Peter Parker's movie outings have provided countless thrills and spills over the years. Even the short-lived Andrew Garfield era had its moments.

As is the case with any blockbuster franchise, not all of the Spidey footage ever shot has ended forming part of the web. A wealth of deleted scenes and alternative takes were left over from each movie, and some of this nixed content is solid gold.

Unused footage from the wall-crawler's cinematic outings has been turning up in DVD extras sections and online since the early days of Tobey Maguire's tenure in red and blue, and often the fans are at a loss to understand why it was cut.

From surprise character returns to sequel setups for movies that never happened, here are some of the best scenes that almost happened in Spider-Man movies.

10. The Return Of Richard Parker (Amazing Spider-Man 2)

At one point, director Mark Webb considered ending The Amazing Spider-Man 2 with a shock return. While Peter Parker is mourning at Gwen Stacy's graveside in the final act, his supposedly-dead father pays him a visit.

There's no explanation for how Richard Parker survived that plane crash, or where he's been for all this time, but he does utter the immortal phrase "with great power comes great responsibility", which is always a bonus.

It's an emotionally charged scene and Andrew Garfield nails it, displaying despondence, anger, confusion, and finally love and acceptance, all in rapid succession, showing off his range as an actor (albeit one who wasn't right for Spidey).

As well as adding the series' famous tagline to the sequel, this scene also served as motivation for Peter, inspiring him to suit up and swing back into action. Presumably more would have been revealed about Richard's return in The Amazing Spider-Man 3, if Webb had been given the opportunity to make it.
