10 Times Requiem For A Dream Scared The Hell Out Of You

10. The Heroin Taking Montages

From the first burst of short snaps, sometimes known as hip hop montage, these iconic episodes of snap shots recognised specifically in Requiem are jumpy and a just a little bit too raw to watch without feeling slightly disgusted. The montages provide a build up to the stark portrayal of Harry and Tyrone's luckless lifestyle, and even the first set of iconic snapshots (pupils dilating, water boiling, etc) stand in dark comparison to the lives of non-drug users. It's Scary Because: these scenes are intense, jumpy, and full of amazing sound effects that are designed to have a visceral impact. They're supposed to provoke, and they don't disappoint.

I love Stephen King and music festivals; I eat my toast upside down; I daydream about getting married probably a bit too much; and I wish every day for a pet sausage dog puppy (who never materialises – sob).
