10 Unbelievable Origins Of Iconic Star Wars Sound Effects

6. General Grievous' Cough - George Lucas Had Bronchitis

The Sound Effect: General Grievous was an interesting character who was severely mishandled. Gifted a genuinely affecting story in the Expanded Universe, Revenge Of The Sith didn€™t bother to explain his backstory beyond being bad (you kinda have to be with a name like that), which led to the intended cyborg parallels to Vader being lost. The big mistake was that the character was still being developed for the big screen while other mediums (books, comics, TV) were already using him. Thus key elements of the character, chief among them his cough, didn€™t appear, leading to a myriad of inconsistencies when different people tried to patch the plot holes up. Which again only served to play down the Vader similarities. The Crazy Origin: Although it seems obvious that Grievous had a cough to contrast with Vader€™s breath (let€™s pretend that a cyborg having a cough makes sense for the time being), that€™s far from the case. During the early stages of Episode III€™s production George Lucas had a cough and in a fit of active development recorded it to use for the then undetermined new villain.
