10 Underrated Animated Movies That Deserve A Second Chance

9. Rise Of The Guardians

Tintin Movie
Paramount Pictures

Rise of the Guardians came out at a terrible time; November 2012 was a stacked movie month, boasting huge hits like Wreck-It Ralph, Flight, Skyfall, Lincoln, Life of Pi, Hitchcock, and the finale to The Twilight Saga. DreamWorks Animation's movie was dead on arrival.

That's not to say Rise of the Guardians was a box office bomb, it actually made over $300 million and more than double its budget, but it certainly lost plenty of mindshare to the other movies released that month. While that's fair because most of those other movies were fantastic, it's a shame that a great film like Rise of the Guardians felt the fallout.

The movie sees the holiday Guardians, Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, and the Sandman, enlist the help of the teenage ruffian, Jack Frost, in order to stop Pitch Black from plunging the world into darkness. It's a fairly grim plot for an so-called kids movie, but it brings together lots of beloved characters and does so with eye-popping animation. Maybe wait until Christmas until you seek this one out, it's perfect for the holiday season!
