Tribeca-Film-Festival-201-007 Brother of playwright/film director Martin McDonagh, who will show up later on the list, John Michael McDonagh got his start in the film industry with the short film the Second Death in 2000. He helped write the screenplay for the 2003 film Ned Kelly but didn't achieve his breakthrough until his 2011 film The Guard, which he wrote and directed. Starring Brendan Gleeson as an eccentric Irish policeman and Don Cheadle as American FBI agent who is brought in to find some drug traffickers. The Guard went on to become the most financially successful independent Irish film ever made and received some of the best reviews of 2011. McDonagh's next film will be this years Calvary, again starring Brendan Gleeson. I love movies, literature, history, music and the NBA. I love all things nerdy including but not limited to Star Wars, Star Trek, Lord of the Rings, and Firefly. My artistic idols are Dylan, Dostoevsky, and Malick and my goal in life is to become like Bernard Black from Black Books. When I die, I hope to turn into the space baby from 2001: A Space Odyssey.
