10 Upcoming Blockbusters You Should Be Worried About

Pacific Rim isn't a movie people really talk about anymore. Not Guillermo Del Toro's best effort by any stretch of the imagination, but the 'giant robots beating the sh*t out of giant monsters' pitch definitely delivered some solid blockbuster entertainment at the time. March 2018 brings the release of the sequel Pacific Rim: Uprising almost five years later, and the question remains: does anyone care?

The first movie was seen as a commercial disappointment and barely scraped past $100m at the domestic box office, but the sequel was kept alive thanks to its popularity in China where it ended up with a haul of $114.3m. After the sale of Legendary Pictures to a Chinese group in 2016 the project was quickly approved to capitalize on that popularity with Jing Tian, Zhang Jin and Zhu Zhu joining John Boyega, Rinko Kikuchi and Scott Eastwood on the cast list.

Although Boyega makes for a charismatic lead, the rest of the cast isn't particularly interesting bar the returning Charlie Day, which was one of the major problems of the first movie. Steven S. DeKnight faces a huge test as he makes the leap to directing a $150m blockbuster on the back of just seven television credits in fourteen years, looking to both expand the mythology and reignite interest in a sequel that not a lot of people are actively clamoring for.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
