As prone to leaks as any major Hollywood movie might be, it's safe to say that the Internet rumour mill also has a habit of fudging the facts and just plain getting things wrong.

And given how far in advance most movie sequels are announced, fans have plenty of time to twiddle their thumbs, draw up outlandish fan theories out of nowhere, wildly misinterpret set photos and basically get the bum end of the stick.

But sometimes it's not all baseless conjecture - sometimes fans will make a perfectly reasonable assumption about a movie based on its title, its marketing or even comments from the cast and crew, only for the truth to be quite different.

Each of these 10 upcoming sequels is clearly banking on employing the art of misdirection to its benefit, hoping that they can subvert expectations and deliver surprises without alienating half the fanbase (looking at you, Star Wars: The Last Jedi).

Despite what Reddit, a cleverly-edited trailer and maybe even the movie's own stars might be telling you, these sequels aren't quite set to take the obvious path we're all expecting...
