10 Upcoming Movies That Could Bomb At The Box Office

9. Skyscraper

Is there any point in even paying to see the upcoming Skyscraper seeing as the the most recent trailer has seemingly given the entire movie away in the space of three minutes? Hopefully the final product manages to be more than the sum of its parts, because from here it looks like little more than an uninspired 'Die Hard meets The Towering Inferno' mash-up.

What Skyscraper (somewhat cynically) does have working in its favor is the Chinese setting, as movies based in the country tend to do very well at the box office in the world's fastest-growing market. Then there is the presence of Dwayne Johnson, one of the last genuine movie stars left in Hollywood who is capable of opening a movie based on the strength of his personal brand alone, regardless of quality.

While on the surface it may seem like prototypical summer fare destined for success, the only original bone that Dodgeball director Rawson M. Thurber's blockbuster seems to have in its body is the fact that the main character has a prosthetic leg.

Wooden exposition, cheesy one-liners and ropey CGI are the order of the day based on the footage so far, and a release date sandwiched in between Ant-Man and the Wasp and Mission: Impossible - Fallout could see Skyscraper struggle to make an impact in July's increasingly-crowded theaters.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
