10 Upcoming Movies That Have Made Terrible Mistakes Already

8. Trying To Rail Against The Comics - Joker

Completing the trilogy of DC films which aren’t really DC films at the bottom of the list comes Joker. Some of the marketing fit it has been quite smart, but other parts have been a little iffy, and it’s only muddied the waters.

Essentially, Joker seems like it’s a comic book movie which is a little embarrassed about being a comic book movie. Considering executive producer Martin Scorsese doesn’t really do franchise pictures and the eccentric Joaquin Phoenix allegedly turned down Doctor Strange, it should come as no surprise that there’s a little bit of resentment attached.

However, director Todd Phillips’ recent comments that ‘people are gonna be mad’ that they aren’t sticking to the comic books feels like they’re trying to be edgy; exactly the trap Jared Leto’s Joker fell into.

Are people really going to be mad? Aren’t we expecting more of a stand-alone flick anyway? Nobody seriously thinks Phoenix is going to be emulating Heath Ledger or Mark Hamill in the role.

Joker still looks set to be a great movie, but they need to stop tempering expectations and just let the film speak for itself. Adapting a character as big a Joker was always going to bring this attention.
