10 Utterly Absurd Comic Book Villains (That Could Be Great On Film)

0 Absurd Villains 2 There are no two ways about it. Superheroes and supervillains are absurd. We suspend our disbelief every time Iron Man takes flight in his armour, every time Superman shoots lasers out of his eyes, every time Captain America throws his shield, every time Spider-Man swings from his web, every time Wolverine brings out his claws, and even every time Batman appears in public and doesn't get laughed at. Nolan's Batman films were a game changer. They proved that superhero films can perform well critically and financially with a more serious tone. The films themselves are not serious; after all, they are about a man dressing in a bat costume fighting crime. They are however internally consistent with their tone and consistent with the tone of similarly serious action films. The Avengers was also a game changer for superhero films. It brought together four main heroes from their own individual films with distinct tones and it worked. The key to Avengers working was that all of the characters were consistent with their previous appearances and that all of the films had an acceptance of the fantastical. With the success of the Avengers, we can now start to consider the film possibilities of characters previously thought to be too bizarre. Here is a list of ten utterly absurd supervillains that given the right tone could be great.

Honourable Mention €“ Fin Fang Foom

11 Foom Cropped3 Fin Fang Foom is an alien humanoid dragon who wants to conquer earth for his species. If Foom appeared in film looking something like the image on the left, he would absolutely deserve a place on this list. It is more likely though that if Foom did appear in film, he would look like the image on the right, which doesn't seem so absurd. A knight in technological armour fighting a technological looking dragon kind of makes sense. It would be great to see, but it wouldn't be utterly absurd. It is worth noting that Fin Fang Foom appeared on a billboard in the first Iron Man film based on the picture on the right.
