9. The Lost Boys
Easily one of the most quintessentially 80s movies ever made, Joel Schumacher's The Lost Boys manages to blend gothic culture with the (now ludicrous) trends of the 1980s to make for a singular, unique vampire film that helped establish Corey Feldman and Corey Haim as two of the biggest rising stars of their generation. Concerned with two brothers who end up moving to California and find themselves teaming up with two other kids, also brothers, to fend off a vampire assault, The Lost Boys is the epitome of a vampire film that doesn't take itself too seriously. Yes, some might view it as style over substance - it's got gorgeous cinematography, brilliant costume design and superb make-up effects - but a lot of the film's fun is simply in watching the cast, especially a young Kiefer Sutherland as the leader of the vampire gang, spouting the pulpy dialogue and clearly having a blast doing so. And of course, who can forget the classic quote, "One thing about living in Santa Carla I never could stomach...all the damn vampires".
