The old ‘city family moves to the country for a fresh start but encounters something much worse than urban crime and noise pollution’ trope has been used to various effect in horror with villains ranging from familicidal killers to spiders and poltergeists. In Strays, however, the bad guys are your average domesticated house cats.

After a city slicker couple and their annoying, monosyllabic kid move to a new house in the country they find themselves at the mercy of a gang of rather mean kitties living there who, seemingly pissed off at their former home being gentrified, have taken to attacking any humans that come near them.

Of course, cats of this size can’t really do much apart from giving you a nasty nip or scratch so they mostly just kill people via scaring them into falling over banisters or down flights of stairs when they’re not sauntering the set around looking unimpressed and decidedly unthreatening.
