11 Awful Opening Scenes In Otherwise Awesome Movies

Those boring opening scenes everyone skips to get to the good stuff.

The opening scene is an extremely important aspect of any movie: it sets the tone for what's to come, establishes the characters and setting, and can easily cause a potential audience member to change the channel or pick something else on Netflix if it's not up to scratch. All the more frustrating it is, then, when terrible opening scenes happen to otherwise fantastic films.

These 11 movies are all classics of their respective genres in one way or another, but each also suffered with growing pains from the outset, saddled down by an opening sequence that was either too slow, heavy-handed, cringe-inducingly corny, poorly directed, or perhaps some twisted combination of most (if not all) of the above. From comic book films to low-budget horror flicks, goofy comedies and grim South Korean thrillers, these 11 movies certainly got off on the wrong foot with audiences, though promptly course-corrected themselves by serving up something decidedly more entertaining for their remainder.

It's safe to say that plenty of fans of these movies hit the fast-forward button to get to past all the filler and arrive at the prime rib material. Frankly, who can blame them? Without any further ado, here are 11 awful opening scenes in otherwise awesome movies...
