The Last Jedi will shock the world.

2017 has already done plenty to surprise cinema-goers, what with Wonder Woman enjoying unexpected critical and commercial success, the brilliant Get Out coming out of nowhere, Transformers: The Last Knight grossing substantially below expectations, and of course, Fox daring to kill off the huge cash cow that is Hugh Jackman's Wolverine. That's naming just a few.

With the summer blockbuster season now in full swing and the second half of the year yet to unfurl, there's still a lot left to consider, from the crap shoot that is box office speculation, to who will lead the pack in Oscar season, and what might become the most memorable moments in the year's most anticipated films.

Mining cast and crew interviews, box office tracking, early Oscar picks and a little guesswork, these 11 predictions are certainly where the smart money lies...

11. Thor: Ragnarok Is The MCU's Best-Reviewed Film To Date

The Marvel Cinematic Universe's best-reviewed movie so far is 2012's The Avengers, which scored an impressive 92% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes with an 8.0/10 average score.

However, that may very well change with the release of November's Thor: Ragnarok, which not only looks fantastic, but will benefit from the presence of critically-acclaimed director Taika Waititi, a fantastic supporting cast including Cate Blanchett, Jeff Goldblum, Tessa Thompson and Karl Urban, and a sure-to-be-hilarious buddy dynamic between the titular Asgardian and The Hulk.

While the previous two Thor movies are on the critical lower end of the MCU, it looks like Ragnarok's finally going to give the character the visually stunning, hilarious and action-packed romp he totally deserves.

Waititi is too damn good to make this anything less than great, so don't be surprised if he even manages to outdo Joss Whedon's original ensemble blockbuster.
