11 Wild Theories About 2017’s Biggest Movies

Now the dust has settled on 2016 we can see that most of the wacky pre-release theories fans held about certain movies were false. The Joker didn’t turn out to be Jason Todd, Captain America didn’t die and get replaced by Bucky, and Christian Bale didn’t come back to play the “real” Batman.

In hindsight, it seems obvious these theories were false, yet part of the fun of fandom is speculating and debating what’s going to happen next. That’s why fan theories have become so popular in the last few years; they fuel excitement for the final product, whilst keeping fans guessing and debating.

With lots of big releases on the way in 2017 there’s a fresh batch of theories too; some of which sound plausible enough, whilst others are quite nuts. Time will tell how close to the truth they actually are, but until then let’s look at some of the wilder theories doing the rounds.

11. Meet Ripley’s Mother – Alien: Covenant

Fox

Fans are naturally quite excited for the next Alien movie from Ridley Scott, even if Prometheus was a mixed bag. Fox at least appear confident with his work on Covenant, since they’ve moved up the release date twice.

Details are mostly under wraps for the sequel, which will see the return of Michael Fassbender’s David, and Katherine Waterston will play Daniels, the new stand-in for Ripley. Production photos have found Daniels looking like a dead ringer for Ripley, and if the theories are to be believed there’s a good reason for that.

That because Daniels may actually be Ripley’s mother, a detail leaked right from the script. While Covenant will be a prequel to the events of Alien, it feels too neat if it turns out Ripley’s mum was also a kickass warrior who encountered the creature years before.
