12 AWFUL Sequels That Made More Money Than Blade Runner 2049

12. Taken 3

Box Office: $326.4 million

Though the third and (apparently) final entry into the Taken franchise didn't quite match the astronomical $376.1 million gross of its predecessor, it still multiplied its $48 million budget many times over, leading the series to a combined worldwide box office of over $900 million.

The original Taken was an enjoyable action flick that benefited hugely from Liam Neeson's against-type performance, while the first sequel was a totally forgettable retread.

Taken 3 is somewhat more memorable, if only because it was painfully clear that Neeson, who was 62 years old at the time of filming, couldn't quite meet the physical requirements for the character anymore. Hence why director Olivier Megaton had to employ about a dozen cuts just to show Neeson scaling a fence.

Everything from the plot to the hackneyed, over-edited action sequences is terrible, but at least it seemed to bring the gravy train to its final destination.
