12 Best Films Of 2012

A round of 2012's very best.

Skyfall What a year it has been for film. One might be inclined to say that this has been one of the most inspiring and engaging for quite some time. Barely a month has gone by without at least two roaring classics coming to the silver screen. From The Shire to down-town L.A, the greatest minds of cinema have taken us on many wild adventures. We have laughed, we have cried, and as a result the world has rekindled its love with movies. There have been a handful of films that have stood out above the rest. A few special motion pictures have really stirred film fans and casual cinema-goers alike. In fact, there have been more than a few, but for the sake of time and an incessant need to be ruthless and/or brave, I have narrowed it down to a select few €“ 12 to be exact. These films have been selected based on the UK release schedule (so no Lincoln or Zero Dark Thirty), and they are presented in no particular order. Enjoy.

12. Avengers Assemble

avengers The only way this could have been more fun, is if they were giving away fully functional Iron Man suits with your cinema ticket. Joss Whedon€™s epic comic adventure is the stuff of fan boy wet dreams. It has lashings of solid action, oodles of punchy one-liners, a healthy serving of hero on hero smackdowns, and enough comic lore to appease even the most ardent viewer. Technically, Avengers Assemble is no more epic than most summer blockbusters. The secret to its success is the perceived grandeur, and the succinct pace and storyline that Whedon has created. But lets not quibble over minor details. Truth be told, Avengers Assemble has pretty much trumped the legacy of a certain rival franchise over at Warner Brothers. The Marvel €˜phase one€™ seems to have paid off after all.

Part critic-part film maker, I have been living and breathing film ever since seeing 'Superman' at the tender age of five. Never one to mince my words, I believe in the honest and emotional reaction to film, rather than being arty or self important just for cred. Despite this, you will always hear me say the same thing - "its all opinion, so watch it and make your own." Follow me @iamBradWilliams
