12. Vera Farmiga Is A Secret Villain - Godzilla: King Of The Monsters

Despite the Godzilla sequel promising a greater focus on monster-on-monster mayhem, King of the Monsters nevertheless placed an infuriating emphasis upon its lackluster human drama, resulting in a laughably poor plot twist.

Mid-way through the film, Dr. Emma Russell (Vera Farmiga) reveals that she's been secretly working with the film's eco-terrorist group to re-awaken the monsters (aka Titans).

She believes that their re-emergence will thin the Earth's population and allow the planet to "heal" from the environmental damage inflicted upon it by humans.

Aside from the idiocy of instigating a mass extinction event in order to "save" the world, the fact that Emma unveils her plan via a giant video wall, complete with news footage which she apparently prepared ahead of time, is head-smackingly stupid.

That the film then tries to force a redemption arc for her character in the third act only makes it worse. An actress of Farmiga's caliber deserved so, so much better than this.
