12 Horror Movies That Deserved Sequels

10. Snakes On A Plane

For anyone who wasn't old enough to be online in 2006, it can be hard now to explain what a sensation Snakes on a Plane was in the run-up to its August release. The outright absurdity of the concept, the none-more-self-explanatory title, the knowledge that Samuel L Jackson was going to say something about the "motherf***ing snakes on this motherf***ing plane": film fans everywhere were gearing up for what promised to be the ultimate guilty pleasure B-movie.

As such, it proved a bit anticlimactic when director David R Ellis's film landed in cinemas, and proved to be a fairly mundane blend of creature feature and disaster movie. While extra gore and sex was shot to adhere to fan demand for an R-rating (can you believe New Line were ever considering making it a PG-13?), the action never gets quite as out-there and absurd as many had hoped.

The rather muted audience reaction, echoed in its less-than-expected global box office haul of $62 million, scuppered any chances of a Snakes on a Plane sequel. Too bad, as it would have been fun to see them take that journey again, but really go all out: I'm thinking Sam Jackson wrestling an anaconda on the wing of a 747 while on a collision course with the Hollywood Hills.

Still, it did garner some cash-grab direct-to-DVD rip-offs, most infamously The Asylum's Snakes on a Train.
