Captain Marvel would never stand a chance against the Justice League, right? She didn't stand a chance, she obliterated them.

That might shock at first, but when you remember what the 2017 film actually looked like, then it isn't all that surprising.

Justice League was doomed to fail from the start. Warner Bros. rushed the DCEU together without laying the required groundwork. Unfortunately, not even the success of Wonder Woman could force fans to come out to see it and, as a result, the single event that it had all been building to ended up bringing in the franchise's weakest numbers.

Given that it's far from the DCEU's strongest contender (commercially or critically), it's no surprise that Captain Marvel surged past it. That said, the fact that a standalone Marvel movie based on a lesser-known superhero managed to surge past a team-up of DC's most iconic heroes is a spectacular achievement.
