The Movie We Know...

Jurassic World is a glorious exercise in nostalgia and the perfect antidote to the underwhelming sequels to the original Spielberg classic. Crucially, even after rumours of silly dino-soldiers, the key idea of Owen's trained raptors actually turned out to be great.

But, What We Almost Got...

As a side-note: we ALMOST got a great sounding Jurassic Park/Weird Science mash-up (without the sexcapades, hopefully) as Michael Crichton started to write a screenplay before he'd even published his novel. That would have seen a grad student making a dinosaur that goes inevitably haywire.

But flash forward to the period after Jurassic Park 3 and the film-makers were still looking for wackier ideas, including something quite close to Jurassic World's trained raptors. In one early version of the script, the hero Nick would have had a pod of dinosaurs, but they would have been fully realised military instruments who would be sent on missions.

First, they'd have to rescue a 10-year-old girl from terrorists, and then they were sent in to take down a drug lord in his home - making them pretty much Rambo with claws. They even wore body armour. Thank God it didn't happen.
