12 Marvel Movies To Make Phase 4 "Distinctly Different"

With the main Avengers team probably bowing out - or possibly even being killed off - at the climax of Phase 3, Marvel will need a replacement team that doesn't simply redo what we've already seen before. If that was the agenda, we wouldn't be seeing difference so consciously set up, and Marvel would simply continue doing what they're doing until it breaks.

The bravest approach to solving that problem would be to introduce an entirely new Avengers line-up that doesn't simply bring all of the single movie characters together for an ensemble. There's no real need to bring Black Panther and Doctor Strange in as Avengers when Marvel could simply go with one of the Avengers less traditional line-ups in the comics.

The quicker they move away from the Avengers being the heart of everything, the sooner they won't be shackled by the need for ever increasing threats, which has an unfortunate knack for ruining story-telling.

The Challenges

The best line-up for the New Avengers includes two Defenders in Luke Cage and Iron Fist, and two Fox owned characters (Wolverine and The Fantastic Four), so there'd need to be some serious negotiations and some creative stealing from the TV arm of Marvel to stop Spider-Man and Spider-Woman being particularly lonely.

There's also the issue of selling an Avengers team that doesn't include Captain America or Tony Stark without it feeling like a diluted version. BUT, if you follow the comics and have this version of the team operating from underground, after a major, destructive event would allow for smaller scale.
