11. A Cure For Wellness – Impromptu Dental Surgery
Unless you’re Bill Murray in Little Shop of Horrors, chances
are you’re not that fond of the dentist, and if you happened to see Gore
Verbinski’s psychological horror A Cure for Wellness in 2017, it’s likely
you’re even less enthusiastic about your next check-up.
Though the horror wasn’t a big hit with everyone, it did
feature one excruciating scene that had even its most vocal detractors
squirming in horror. Young Lockhart (Dane DeHaan) has been sent to a creepy and
rather unorthodox Alpine spa to search for his missing boss and finds himself
subjected to some impromptu dental surgery by the facility’s sinister staff
when he’s restrained in a dentist’s chair and has a drill forced through his
front tooth sans anaesthetic.
The feeling of inescapability, the mechanical whir of the
drill, the sight of the masked maniac (or dentist as they’re also known)
looming over his victim’s mouth – it’s too familiar a scene not to be
