12 Most Effective Musical Moments In Film

10. Girl, You'll Be A Woman Soon - Pulp Fiction (1994)

Pulp Fiction Uma Thurman
Miramax

When gangster Vincent (John Travolta) is tasked with taking his ruthless boss's wife Mia (Uma Thurman) out, he knows that this is not an offer he can refuse. Once they are back at Mia's house for a drink, she takes a few minutes to unwind, plays the Urge Overkill song and snorts cocaine. Inevitably, she suffers a near-fatal drug overdose.

Tarantino uses the song in order to treat this incident like a loss of innocence, a point of no return. Surprisingly for the world that she lives in, Mia has been pretty wide-eyed so far. The life that Mia inhabits and that she possibly been thrust into has not taken her spirit away. Unfortunately, it almost takes her life.

Mia is holding on to her naivete until her overdose. After her life is saved, she is more subdued, but not enough to miss telling a parting joke to Vincent, who is both relieved and sad to leave her behind. It is one of the quirkiest and most effective cinematic love affairs, as surprising as a Chrysler on a dance floor.

Natasha Lopusina hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
