2016 is the year that broke many a fanboy's heart, with a number of widely-anticipated fanboy-friendly movies falling far short of expectations.

We all know which movies offended most card-carrying comic book fans, but that's not all of it. Even some of 2016's most acclaimed blockbusters weren't without their infuriating moments, which had the fanboys instantly ready to post a lengthy essay to their favourite social media channel of choice.

12. CGI Moff Tarkin - Rogue One

There were rumours for months ahead of Rogue One's release that Peter Cushin's Grand Moff Tarkin would be resurrected thanks to cutting-edge CGI, but nobody could've expected him to appear quite so much in the prequel, to the point that it actually distracted from the rest of the movie.

Stand-in Guy Henry does a great job mimicking Cushing's signature vocal cadence, but the visual effects just aren't up to a high enough standard to be believable. It didn't help that Gareth Edwards shot many of his scenes in close-up, when something with more mid-shots and low-key lighting probably would've disguised the digital seams a little easier.

As cool as it was to see the character again, fans are heavily divided on whether his inclusion was ultimately a good idea, given that the quality of the CGI ended up becoming one of the film's big talking points.
