12 Scariest Movie Moments Of 2016

10. Doom-Head's Intro - 31

Rob Zombie is a polarising filmmaker. On the one hand, he has a talent with visuals and drawing strong performances from his actors, and on the other, his dialogue tends to be awful and his characters unlikeable. 31 is his weakest movie to date, and basically mashes The Running Man with Battle Royale, only with a lot more swearing and Nazi midgets.

That said, the character of Doom-Head is a standout. He’s the prize killer of the organisation that runs the game, and in the first scene, he’s introduced giving a monologue to a future victim. The long lingering close-up, the blood caked make-up and the intensity of actor Richard Brake’s performance makes it unbelievably tense to sit through.

Sadly the character then disappears for an hour, and the film gives way to lots of running, yelling and tedium before he comes back.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
