12 Things Disney Want You To Forget About Star Wars

They didn't check the small print.

Everyone knows what Star Wars "is"; a sprawling space epic changed the movie industry, redefined our culture and ruined the idea of prequels. Well, sort of - there's actually a lot in franchise's almost four-decade history that's a galaxy away from what it's viewed as now.

Of course, George Lucas never shied away from overwriting the past. He seriously downplayed the importance of his wife Marcia on the original film (she advised him throughout the production and was a key member of the Oscar-winning editing team) and with the Special Editions strived to "fix" any problems he could find with the originals, no matter how minor.

But things don't stop with the creator. Since Disney has taken over the series, they've done their fair share of trying to make audiences forget key things too, either continuing Lucas' revisionism or hiding facts that don't chime with where they're taking the franchise. Here are biggest things the Mouse House wants you to forget about the galaxy far, far away.

With Disney forging into the future of the Star Wars galaxy, many more ardent fans have claimed that they're actually distancing themselves from the (somewhat unfairly) loathed prequel trilogy in the process.

But are they really? The prequels still sit alongside the other films on StarWars.com and there's been plenty of nods in the various materials put out by Disney. They're not directly doing much in the Clone Wars era, sure, but wasn't that always going to be the case when the main focus now is sequels? Besides, key franchise elements are being carried over from Episodes I-III; while many read the opening line of The Force Awakens, "This will set things right," as a dig at the murk Star Wars had been dragged through, that totally ignored that the following sentence brought in the idea of balance in the Force, something first introduced in The Phantom Meance.
