12 Times Gandalf Seriously Dropped The Ball

12. That Time He Led The Dwarves To The Bear's House

In the second Hobbit film (The Desolation of Smaug), Gandalf, Bilbo Baggins, and a company of 13 dwarves find themselves running away from what looks like a werewolf but turns out to be a bear. Gandalf says there is a house they can take refuge in; it does not belong to friend or foe: "He will help us... or he will kill us". Oh well, great, what a vote of confidence. The dwarves comply anyway, and escape by inches from the terrible bear-beast. When everyone's caught their breath, Gandalf announces that this house belongs to none other than the monster that was chasing them with murder in mind. Yup, Gandalf just led them to what might potentially be death's door. Luckily for them, the shape-shifter (Beorn) arrives home, feeds them dinner, insults them, and sends them on their way luckily without ripping their throats out.

I love Stephen King and music festivals; I eat my toast upside down; I daydream about getting married probably a bit too much; and I wish every day for a pet sausage dog puppy (who never materialises – sob).
