Release Date: May 4
First things first: there is very little chance that, in the hands of the Russo brothers, Avengers: Infinity War is anything close to a bad movie.
However, with Infinity War being the culmination of almost 20 movies of build-up, it's fair to say that anything short of a masterpiece is going to leave fans hugely underwhelmed. Just look at the recent polarising reception to Star Wars: The Last Jedi to see how hugely anticipated movies, even when warmly embraced by critics, can tear a fanbase asunder.
There are so many potential aspects here for fans to be left underwhelmed, be it Thanos not living up to his statuesque reputation, fan favourite superheroes not getting enough screen time, the stakes once again not feeling sufficient, and so on.
Again, the Russos haven't put a foot wrong yet, but with such a ludicrously ambitious undertaking, would it be at all surprising if this mammoth project was their first stumble, ending up merely "decent" or even just "OK"?
