13 Anticipated 2018 Movies Destined To Disappoint

The Buzz: The latest core X-Men movie seeks to re-adapt the Dark Phoenix Saga...but get it right this time.

There's plenty of discussion about this possibly being the last X-Men movie to star Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult, which has some interesting implications for sure, and Jessica Chastain's presence as alien antagonist Lilandra is nothing if not intriguing.

Why It'll Disappoint: Dark Phoenix will be the directorial debut of series writer Simon Kinberg, and though he's clearly learned a lot working on these movies, it's still a colossal gamble to give a $200 million movie to a first-time director.

Then there's the fact that Sophie Turner's performance as Jean Grey was so terrible in Apocalypse that making her the focal point of this movie is definitely asking for trouble. Fingers crossed she worked with an accent coach before shooting started.

And on top of all this, with the likes of Logan and Deadpool redefining what X-Men movies can be as of late, don't these more conventional efforts just feel a little bland? And there won't even be an obligatory, crowd-pleasing Hugh Jackman cameo this time either.
