13 Insane Upcoming Movies That Will Blow Your Mind

Daniel Radcliffe with Horns? We're in.

Horns

With the summer winding down and Oscar season getting ready to kick off, we're putting away the outlandish blockbusters and settling in for some more refined, artistic drama to see us through the remainder of the year, right? Well, that doesn't mean we can't have a little fun, and so we've combed through this year's most bizarre festival releases and strangest upcoming flicks to deliver a list of the 13 most demented, insane and flat-out ridiculous films coming our way soon. These 13 movies, with their absurd premises, sound like they'll be a fine antidote to the deluge of Oscar bait coming down the pike in the following months: we've got talking animals, two unique visions from Kevin Smith, bold political satire, surreal French cinema, a reinterpretation of a Shakespeare yarn, one very creepy-looking horror flick and plenty more. Check out the pitch and the buzz for each film: these 13 movies perfectly define off-kilter cinema that doesn't adhere to the more familiar labels of the blockbuster or awards-friendly fare. They don't care if you like them or not: they're doing their thing, and you can either like that or not. What do you make of these insane movies? Did we miss any utterly absurd upcoming films? Let us know in the comments!

13. The Voices

The VoicesThe Pitch: Jerry (Ryan Reynolds) is an affable young man who also happens to be mentally ill, with his cat and dog acting as his good and bad consciences respectively: his cat, Mr. Whiskers, wants him to become a serial killer, while his dog, Bosco, advises him against it. It doesn't take a genius to guess which path he goes down. Acclaimed filmmaker Marjane Satrapi (Persepolis) directs. The Buzz: Reviews since Sundance have been largely positive (it's sitting at 85% on Rotten Tomatoes), complementing Satrapi's stylish direction and the impressive central performance by Reynolds, even if some dissenters argued that the movie didn't come together tonally and was simply too dark to function properly as a comedy. Still, the screenplay has been doing the rounds online for years now, so if you're curious, it's only one Google search away. If it can even begin to live up to the grim hilarity of what's on paper, then we can't wait to feast our eyes on it. Release Date: TBA.
