13 Massive Movie Predictions For The Rest Of 2018

13. The Predator Is A Critical & Commercial Failure

With rumours suggesting that Fox has spent up to $100 million on the new Predator sequel in the hopes of reviving the franchise as a blockbuster mainstay, there's clearly a lot riding on writer-director Shane Black's ability to rejuvenate the iconic character for a new generation (and satisfy existing fans also).

Sadly, things aren't looking good.

For starters, the movie's first trailer was a bit of a misfire - and the second was only a marginal improvement - with the focus on a new hybrid Predator feeling like the most cynical and obvious route a sequel could go.

The film has reportedly undergone extensive re-shoots recently in order to basically redo the entire third act following disastrous test screenings, so while it's possible Black could salvage the movie in post-production, it's not easy to be optimistic.

Expect mixed reviews at best and be pleasantly surprised if it's anything better than that. If the marketing campaign doesn't ramp up and reviews are indeed mixed-to-negative, this one's going to struggle to gross the $200 million it needs to turn a profit. Bank on it.
