13 Things You Didn't Know About Shailene Woodley

13. She's Wasn't Cut From The Amazing Spider-Man 2 For Being "Ugly"

Woodley spent a few days in March 2013 filming scenes for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 as Mary-Jane Watson, reportedly just a small number of scenes in which she would meet and bond with Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker, presumably to set her up for a full role in the third film once Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone) was killed off. However, a mere three months later, Woodley's part had been cut from the film completely, which combined with leaked set photos of Woodley sans-make-up, caused many fans to suggest that she had been dropped from the role because she wasn't pretty enough (or as some claimed, she was "too ugly"). Of course, this is absurd, and there's no way that Woodley would have been cast if she wasn't up to the series' photogenic standards. Director Marc Webb later commented on the situation, that it was "a creative decision to streamline the story and focus on Peter and Gwen and their relationship", which given the movie's ultimate 142-minute run-time, seems fair enough. With these scenes, the movie would probably have been at least another five minutes longer, and far from the silly rumours the fanboys loved to chat about, it was simply about crafting the most cohesive story (or trying to, anyway).
