13 Truly Heartbreaking Facts About Film In 2015

Fifty Shades of Grey made how much!?

2015 has been a fantastic year in film for many reasons, but it's also taught fans some less-than-cool home truths, ranging from infuriatingly popular cinematic trends, to actors who are sadly no longer with us, and movie franchises that somehow just won't die. As enjoyable as it is to sink our teeth into Oscar season and 2016 is already shaping up to be one for the books, hopefully viewers might take note of some of these facts, which might make you stop and think about what you watch and where your box office dollars are going above all else. Whether any of these will rectify themselves in the future remains to be seen (in some cases, like the deaths, it's simply impossible), but we'll keep our fingers crossed.

13. No More Philip Seymour Hoffman Movies

The film world was shocked when legendary actor Philip Seymour Hoffman died unexpectedly of a drug overdose in February 2014, though a small scrap of solace came in the fact that he still had a number of films awaiting release, such as the divisive God's Pocket, the acclaimed A Most Wanted Man, and of course, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Parts 1 & 2. This past November saw Hoffman make his final screen appearance as Plutarch Heavensbee in Mockingjay Part 2, a fairly unremarkable part for the actor but one he nevertheless shot through with his signature gravitas, even if his death mid-production meant that his role was fairly subdued throughout and ultimately curtailed. The realisation that we'd never get to see Hoffman in another movie finally set in for fans, even though we have an unquestionably rich catalogue of his prior movies to enjoy time and again. RIP PSH.
